The boy put on shorts again this morning.
He looked shocked when I told him calmly to change.
How calm was I? My voice was barely a whisper. Why was I so calm? If I didnÂ’t maintain that level of calm, I would have killed the boyÂ… or at least woken the neighbors up from my yelling.
He is going to need all the help he can get to survive the next 6 years.
And you all wonder why I drink. j/kÂ… well not really.

My son did that to me when he was 3 & 4 and threw a fit and refused to change. When he was 3 I took him to daycare in his pajamas along with a change of clothes, as per the Director's admonition to us single parents during a parenting class. After the pajama incident he let me dress him without a fight for the rest of the year.
Whe he was 4 I was running a bit late to an important early meeting so I asked him to put on the clothes I laid out on the bed for him. Instead he came out in shorts and refused to change. I have a stressful job AND HATE dealing with crossness early in the morning so I said fine and threw a pair of long pants in his back pack. At 48F I knew he'd change his mind half way to school. He walked the half mile to his school very quickly. He was so stubborn about it that he didn't complain until we got to the block his school was on. He ran the entire way to the school door, but since they didn't let unaccompanied children inside, he had to wait till *I* got to the front door.
Since that day he has never, ever argued with me about what to wear. I am soooo glad I took those classes because truthfully I would have been lost without them! Of course now I have a blog, so I can read what other parents do or simply email them questions and I get very effective and tortorous solutions to the problems; solutions I thoroughly enjoy putting into effect!
