It may be a little too late in the year to post this, but I'm going to anyway as I just found it. All of us have gotten into a a car on a hot day at some time. I know a lot of people arenÂ’t into history, but IÂ’d just like to point out that the bloodiest battle in American History ended today. 144 years ago today at 3:00PM CST (IÂ’d say 3:00PM EST, but it actually happened at 3:00 and Day Light Savings time was not enacted in 1863) General Picket led his men across the fields outside Gettysburg Pennsylvania. By 4:00 PM the battle assault was finished with almost all of PicketÂ’s men killed or wounded. Thus Picket's Charge ended the Battle of Gettysburg, the turning point in the war for the North.

In the three days of fighting 51,000 American soldiers, from privates to Generals, died in these three days fighting for what they believed in. Some people take this for granted or just view it as a step toward freeing slaves. But anyone that has ever studied history knows that this was much more. Let me put it to you this way, if the South had won this would have been known as the Confederate Revolution.

ItÂ’s because I am a student of history. That IÂ’ve sat quietly for three days, looking at the clocks and ticking off the timeline. Subtly making comments to people about what was happening 144 years ago at that moment. Each time I did it with a tear in my eye. Why? Because those where Americans fighting for what they believed in, and no matter if you felt they where right or wrong, they deserved to be respectedÂ… BOTH sides.

Now this is a doorbell! Over at ThinkGeek they have a USB doorbell.

The USB Doorbell replaces your current chime and allows you to play your favorite sound effects, music, audio clips, movie quotes or whatever strikes your fancy. Anytime someone presses that little button by your front door the USB Doorbell will "ring" using the sound you have selected. It first connects to your computer via USB (cable included) and will store any up-to-thirty second WAV or MP3 soundclip that you wish to use.

According to the article it works with standard low voltage doorbell systems, so it doesnÂ’t look like it would take a lot of tinkering. Here is a clip of it working in all of itÂ’s geeky action.

Not in a million years did I think that a Tesla Coil could be a musical instrument. That is until I saw this clip. They played some video game theme music from Super Mario Brothers and Tetris. So all of us old Nintendo geeks should recognize at least those parts. A U of I Urbana-Champaign student Steve Ward built the coil.

According to the blurb with the video:

So just to explain a little further, yes, it is the actual high voltage sparks that are making the noise. Every cycle of the music is a burst of sparks at 41 KHz, triggered by digital circuitry at the end of a "long" piece of fiber optics.

What's not immediately obvious in this video is how loud this is. Many people were covering their ears, dogs were barking. In the sections where the crowd is cheering and the coils is starting and stopping, you can hear the the crowd is drowned out by the coil when it's firing.

Need to get something cold really fast? Just add salt! No seriously.

This isn’t anything new. I’ve known about this one since college. This knowledge was passed down to some friends and myself by a senior my freshman year. He said, “Dude, if you have to cool a keg really fast, through it in a garbage can filled with ice. Add a lot of salt and stir. It’ll be ice cold in about 10 minutes” He wasn’t lying. I’ve done this numerous times with cans, bottles and kegs.

IÂ’ve gone to parties where itÂ’s bring your own beer. Unfortunately the store I went to didnÂ’t have the beer I wanted cold. No problem, but the beer, ice and salt containerÂ… VIOLA! Cold beer. DonÂ’t believe me. See this video and try it yourself.

This is going to be the last I'm going to post on this subject for a while so I'm going to cram a couple of things into one post. First Thanks to Graumagus I now have two new t-shirts, Does Your Family have a Zombie Infestation Plan AND Guns don't kill People, Zombies Kill People. Technically he only pointed out the first one, but in ordering that one, I found the other so he gets credit for both of them. They arrived in the mail yesterday.

Next, here is a new Zombie Game, It pretty much lasts forever. This one is much more challenging then the last one.

Finally, apparently I'm not the only sick bastard out there. Someone else must have thought of hot zombie loving. I know friends of mine have heard me talk about it, but I know of two zombie pr)nos, the Re-penetrator and Evil Head (releasing soon). Both are made by the same company. The trailor to the Re-penetrator is in the extended entry. Folks, I'm not kidding when I say this video is extremely NOT SAFE FOR WORK! Do NOT click the extended entry if you are at work, have small kids around or just do not want to see hot undead action. The autoplay is stuck on, so it will start as soon as you open it.

The video quality is not the best, but itÂ’s showing a way to cut glass using scissors. I donÂ’t know if this is real or not. IÂ’m not about to try it in my kitchen sink, and itÂ’s too cold outside to try it in a bucket.

To be honest IÂ’ve watched this video three times and there are points where it looks like there is some slight of hand at work. I know that clear glass is hard to see under water, and with the less then stellar quality of the video, there could be other pieces of glass hidden in the bottom of the sink.

Then again it could be real. If any of you know for a fact this can be done, share the info.

When I was a kid I used to do a lot of fishing. In a lot of the local stores you could get a lure that looked like a mouse. I knew it was for bass and other larger fish in the lakes around here, but I had never seen any fish actually eat a mouse. Until I found this video of a guy feeding his pet bass a mouse:

Sand castles, when I was a kid I would spend hours making sandcastles. Mostly I made them on the beach at the campground that my parents and grandparents went to all the time. I made everything from little forts that I would destroy with my GI Joes to an entire sand community that was about to get squashed under my feet while I pretended to be Godzilla.

I was never very good at making sand castles. They didnÂ’t look all that great, nor where they generally all that creative. Mostly it was just piles of sand that had been shaped into buildings, forts or actual castles. The best I ever did was one that actually kind of looked like Fort Sumner from the Civil War. Yea, it was destroyed.

It has been at least 20 years since the last time I even attempted to make a castle. But If I did make one today, IÂ’d probably still want to destroy it. So when I saw these videoÂ’s I was enthralled by it. Sand Castles explodingÂ… in reverse. ItÂ’s kind of neat to see them reform.

This makes me want to go to a beach with some black powder.

A friend of mine sent me this commercial for DonÂ’s Guns.

Apparently they are in Indianapolis, Indiana. I love the fact you can rent just about any gun you want to shoot. However, is it just me, or does this guy seem a littleÂ… off?

This video has some pretty cool shotguns in it, the A-12 MKII and the A-10 MKI.

They look like they would be a lot of fun, but IÂ’m not sure I would want to own either of them. From the way the guys shooting them are moving around, it looks like there is a lot of kick to them. If anyone has one they want to let me test fire to review however, IÂ’d be more then happy to.

Now here's one that looks like it doesn't have as much kick.
